Matt Hampson Foundation

Set up in 2011, the Matt Hampson Foundation provides advice, support, relief and/or treatment for anyone suffering serious injury or disability which has arisen from any cause, particularly from participation in or training for any sport.

Its founder, Matt Hampson OBE, is a former English former rugby union prop who became paralysed from the neck down (C4/5 tetraplegic), after a scrummaging accident when practising with the England under-21 squad in March 2005.

As a result, his condition requires permanent use of a ventilator to breathe.

Based in Burrough on the Hill, Leicestershire, the Foundation moved to a £1 million rehabilitation centre in 2018, which enabled them to offer expert physiotherapy and specialised personal training from its state-of-the-art gym, as well as nutrition and health advice.

To enhance the quality of their services, the Foundation got in touch with Innova Care Concepts for their expertise in supplying and installing specialist healthcare equipment.

Innova were able to supply AirRise overhead hoist systems, Formidabel care beds and pressure care mattresses for the Foundation’s Get Busy Living Centre, helping to create a functional yet contemporary environment.

The Challenge

A key objective for the Foundation was to create a care environment that wasn’t too clinical.

They wanted to create a space which was functional, but also homely in appearance and design.

Achieving that balance between functionality and design led Innova and the Foundation to discuss the lodges that resided at the Get Busy Living Centre.

The lodges enable those receiving support and treatment a place to stay, using the state of the art rehabilitation facilities, meet fellow beneficiaries and relax in peaceful surroundings.

Their lodges required overhead hoist systems that allowed an individual to move from the bedroom to an ensuite bathroom.

Specialist care beds and mattresses were also needed, helping to provide excellent comfort, but also incredible pressure relief and redistribution for users.

Innova’s Solution

 

Innova are specialists in providing patient handling equipment that not only ensure a convenient hoisting experience for both the end-user and the caregiver, but are also subtle in design.

For this particular project, Innova installed two inset track monorail hoist systems from the bedroom to ensuite with AirRise200 hoists.

This allowed for straightforward transfers from the bedroom to the ensuite bathroom.

By incorporating inset tracking, the hoist system was installed inset to the finished ceiling, taking up less height in the room and creating a less clinical finish.

Two Liberta 120cm wide beds were also supplied, equipped with wall spacers, under bed lights and bespoke head and footboards.

In order to give a wider variety of pressure redistribution for high risk and very high risk individuals, Innova also supplied a 120cm Somlent Nebula high risk mattress and a 120cm Sensaflo hybrid mattress.

By delivering a equipment package featuring hoist systems, care beds and pressure mattresses, Innova were able to create care environments that delivered on both functionality and design.
