Whiteley Village Nursing Home

Based in Walton on Thames, Surrey, Whiteley Village Care Centre is a purpose-built facility that houses around 500 older people in both retirement and care properties.

As the provider of 25% of the specialist social housing for older people in the borough of Elmbridge, Whiteley Village wanted to expand their facilities with a new nursing care centre.

Following a consultation with residents, Whiteley Village recognised the importance of tackling loneliness, and in doing so, aimed to create an environment that combined clinical support with a major emphasis on social interaction.

Having spoken to a number of companies to help them achieve their goal, Innova were recommended for the project, having supplied and installed a range of equipment at Woking and Sam Beare Hospice.

As the sole supplier of all loose and fitted furnishings, Innova’s interior design team co-ordinated furniture, colours, and fabrics for 30 different bedrooms, as well as installing each bedroom with an Innova Formidabel care bed.

Innova also installed loose furniture including bespoke riser recliner chairs for two communal lounge/dining areas as well as the reception, café, and hair salon.

The Challenge

In many UK nursing homes, residents spend a lot of their time overly confined to their bedroom.

Whiteley Village wanted to change that with their new nursing care centre, tackling the issue of loneliness head on by creating spaces and interaction where friendships could flourish.

Their two–storey building challenged the traditional nursing home model by encompassing a central, communal open-plan kitchen and living area that would be the focal point on each floor, creating a sense of connection that is missing in many care homes.

A stylish conservatory-style Lantern Café and a hair salon were also included in the facility to enhance social interaction, whilst for those residents who required higher levels of support and care, there are therapy and consulting rooms as well as 30 studios.

To ensure a smooth process in fitting out their new care home, Whiteley Village wanted to work with only one provider.

Innova were chosen as they could supply a wide range of furniture and furnishings to meet different requirements, offering bespoke bedroom furniture as well advice during the design process on aspects such as lighting.

Innova’s Solution

With specifying part of the design process, Sales Director Joe Hulbert led this project from start to finish, working closely with our interior designer to create completely-unique mood boards for all different areas within the new care home.

We supplied all the furniture for the new facility, including outdoor furniture and plants that allowed for softening of the common areas and environments as well as screening.

Whiteley Village were very keen to ensure that all the furniture that was supplied was able to cater for their resident’s needs, but without looking clinical.

Innova were able to provide a whole host of bespoke solutions, including sourcing dining chairs with in-built little wheels to improve accessibility.

By providing the ranges of furniture that Whiteley Village required, Innova helped create a care environment that has led to a greater interaction between those residents living independently in the village, and those with greater care needs.
