Oxford University Hospitals Radiotherapy Centre @ Swindon

in

Officially opened in June 2022, the new Oxford University Hospitals Radiotherapy Centre @ Swindon provides radiotherapy treatment and support for patients in Swindon.

Back in 2015, Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s charity, Brighter Futures, launched an appeal of £2.9million to raise money which would be used to purchase key clinical equipment within the new Radiotherapy Centre.

Following years of fantastic support from thousands of local people across Swindon and the surrounding communities, funding was secured to build and equip the Centre with the equipment and furniture they needed to create a high-end care facility.

To ensure the new radiotherapy unit had a modern look and feel, the Centre got in touch with Innova Care Concepts for their expertise in supplying and installing specialist healthcare equipment and furniture.

Innova were able to supply a wide range of loose furniture including chairs, coffee tables and dining tables to help create a functional yet contemporary environment.

The Challenge

Swindon were one of the very few parts of the country without a radiotherapy service, with many local people having to travel over 70 miles to Oxford for treatment.

By creating a new local radiotherapy service for cancer patients diagnosed at Great Western Hospital, over 13,000 patient journeys for radiotherapy treatment will be significantly shorter every year, reducing travel costs and stress for families.

Following the completion of building works for the new centre, the team at Swindon Radiotherapy began to research furniture that would reflect the brand new look and feel of the department.

They wanted to choose a style of furniture that was modern and contemporary in design, as well as being flexible so it could be used throughout the building. The radiotherapy unit needed to be a calm and comfortable space, so they didn’t want furniture that was outdated and clinical, or looked out of place with the interior décor of the building.

There was also a challenge of a changing budget, so they needed a supplier who was adaptable, both in terms of pricing, but also able to offer alternatives that could fulfil the brief.

Innova’s Solution

Having supplied bespoke loose furniture for a range of high-profile care environments, we were able to support Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to create a warm and welcoming care environment.

By providing a wide range of loose furniture, including different styles of chairs and coffee tables, we helped them create a care environment that is high-end and has a modern look and feel.

To ensure our furniture met their patient’s needs and blended into the existing environment, our team were able to offer different design schemes, colour preferences and fabrics for furniture that are wipeable and healthcare compliant.

We even helped their team to see and test the furniture first-hand, inviting them to visit Thames Hospice, where many pieces of furniture that they had chosen was on site, and enabled them to get feedback from one of our current clients.

When the budget for the project changed, our team were agile to source alternative pieces of loose equipment that fit the specifications that Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust wanted.

This type of flexibility was also visible in our ability to store their furniture in our large warehouse until they were required on site, giving the Radiotherapy Team peace of mind.

By delivering a loose furniture package featuring chairs, coffee tables and dining tables, Innova were able to help the Radiotherapy Centre create a care environment that delivered on both functionality and design.
