Thames Hospice

For over 30 years, Thames Hospice have been providing world-class palliative and end-of-life care and support to people aged 16 years and over across East Berkshire and South Buckinghamshire.

With a commitment to delivering the highest quality nursing, medical and therapeutic care to support the physical, social and emotional needs of  patients and their loved ones, Thames Hospice put an ambitious five-year plan in place in 2017 to expand their services.

To enable the hospice to double its day services, as well as offering specialist care such as Lymphoedema services, a new £22 million state-of-the-art facility was commissioned on an eight-acre site by Bray Lake.

 

 

Designed to lead the way in palliative and end-of-life care in a home-from-home setting, Thames Hospice got in touch with Innova for their expertise in interior design to furnish the new facility.

Despite the challenges presented by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Innova team supplied and placed over 400 items of loose furniture, including an array of high back and rise and recline chairs.

This enabled Thames Hospice to be ready to open their doors to their new facility on schedule, with Bray Lake unveiled in October 2020.

The Challenge

Helping furnish a brand new hospice always brings with it a number of challenges, and Thames Hospice was no different.

Their Bray Lake facility is split across three wings, with each private inpatient room equipped with an en-suite bathroom, private terrace and space for loved ones to stay over.

In addition, the hospice has a dedicated day therapy suite, providing patients and their families access to therapeutic and wellbeing services, whilst a new café and shop provide a calming and relaxed environment for all.

Thames Hospice required a vast range of loose furniture for all of these areas, with a focus on ensuring the décor was not only high-end, but also effective for infection prevention.

The emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic also posed huge challenges for this project, especially with regards to sourcing and delivering loose furniture.

Like many industries during the height of the pandemic, there were delays with deliveries on site.

However, our team worked tirelessly with Thames Hospice to ensure that they were consulted at every stage of the project, helping find solutions to  make sure they received the furniture that they required, and ultimately help them open their new facility on time.

Innova’s Solution

We supplied and placed over 400 pieces of loose furniture for the new Thames Hospice at Bray Lake.

From sourcing and supplying high back chairs and coffee tables for their new reception area and café, to rise and recline chairs for inpatient rooms, the Innova team ensured all décor was in keeping with the modern and comfortable vibe that Thames Hospice wanted to convey.

Infection prevention protocols were also a huge priority, especially in light of Covid-19.

Using our extensive experience of working within the hospice sector, all fabrics that we supplied for the loose furniture had antimicrobial finishes, as well as being suitable for washing/wiping to ensure effective infection prevention.

By providing the ranges of furniture that Thames Hospice required, Innova helped create a care environment that met the needs of the patients and families that use them on a daily basis.
