Frederick Holmes School is an all age community special school for pupils with severe physical and learning disabilities. They are committed to delivering an inspirational curriculum in a supportive and caring environment, ensuring that every child and young person are valued.
As part of a new-build project, we worked with Frederick Holmes School in 2012 to help them facilitate students aged 2 to 19 with profound and multiple needs.
During the research and planning process, one of the key messages that was communicated to us from the school was the importance of respect for others, positive attitudes and that independence was nurtured.
It was crucial that the equipment provided would not only improve accessibility, but that it would also allow students to have dignity and improve their independent learning.
To meet this challenge, all classrooms needed to be as accessible as possible with subtle hoist systems, particularly a bespoke hoisting system that would be easy-to-use for both pupils and staff.

With a number of rooms at the school requiring full room hoist coverage, we wanted to ensure that Frederick Holmes School received the very best service. As part of the planning stage, we gave them a chance to truly understand how easy it is to use our system, letting the school try out our hoist units for a while before they made any decisions.
Although the client was originally sceptical to the idea of no spreader bar, they decided to choose us because of the flexibility of our systems and our willingness to go the extra mile to improve quality of life.
