The Challenge

The Wellington Hospital required a specialist hydrotherapy pool within a constrained basement environment. The project called for a bespoke solution that could be delivered into a difficult access area, with the pool components transported down in sections via a lift before being fabricated and assembled in position.

In addition to the physical constraints of the space, the installation needed to support safe and practical access for patients and care teams. This included pool access equipment, hoists and plant room infrastructure split across two rooms.

Approach

Innova developed a coordinated hydrotherapy solution designed around the limitations of the site. Rather than supplying a standard pool, the team delivered a bespoke fabricated pool that could be broken down into panels, moved through the building and assembled in the basement.

This approach helped simplify a complex healthcare installation by bringing together the specialist pool design, fabrication considerations, plant room requirements and hoist provision into one coordinated package.

Implementation

The hydrotherapy pool was taken down to the basement in panels using the lift, then fabricated in situ. Despite the access constraints and bespoke installation method, the completed pool now presents as a fully integrated, purpose-built hydrotherapy environment rather than a panel-built structure.

The pool is approximately 4m x 4m and L-shaped. The installation also includes a step at one end of the pool, plant room equipment split across two rooms, and hoists within the room to support patient transfers and pool access.

Results

The completed hydrotherapy pool provides The Wellington Hospital with a specialist treatment environment designed around access, dignity and practical day-to-day use. By coordinating the pool installation, hoist provision and plant infrastructure, Innova helped reduce the complexity of delivering a highly specialist healthcare facility within a challenging basement location.

The result is a clean, professional hydrotherapy space that supports safer access and creates better opportunities for people with physical needs to benefit from aquatic therapy in a clinical setting.
