An Introduction to Modular Changing Places

Posted on 12 October 2017 in Changing Places

If you’re a frequent visitor to our blog, you’re probably already aware about the Changing Places campaign and everything it entails. These facilities should be available in any large venue across the country because they provide disabled users with a safe and easy way to use the toilet. Whilst this is the goal, we understand that not every building or venue has the ability to fit a Changing Place into their existing structure. That’s precisely why we wanted to introduce you to modular Changing Places — a project that we ourselves have been involved in recently.

So why are Changing Places so important anyway?

Whenever you’re out and about, you’ve probably seen lots of disabled toilets dotted around public spaces. These offer very basic facilities to a small selection of disabled users. Changing Places include a larger variety of equipment as well as much more space, which allows carers to manoeuvre the user in a safe and dignified manner. Just under a quarter of a million disabled people in the UK require the support offered by a Changing Place. If Changing Places are not installed in public areas and buildings, then their basic needs are being ignored. You can find out more about the importance of Changing Places in this blog post.

What are modular Changing Places?

Modular Changing Places are mobile units that can be situated wherever needed to provide good facilities for disabled users. They’re a bit like bigger Portaloos that the majority of the disabled community can use. These units can be hired out for various periods of time and are all compliant with the BS8300:2009 regulations (which stipulate what is to be included in a Changing Place). You can find out more about that in this article.

Modular Changing Places offer an easy solution to existing buildings that either can’t accommodate a Changing Place, or are waiting for one to be installed. Modular Changing Places are also a great temporary solution for events and festivals where they’re only needed for a day or two.

Where can I buy a mobile Changing Place?

Innova have supplied several mobile Changing Places for events and activities that require quality facilities for disabled users.

Mobile facilities can also offer a subtle, permanent solution if you are wanting to buy a mobile Changing Place. It’s a great option if you’re worried about not having the space for a Changing Place inside!

Where can I hire a mobile Changing Place?

We have recently worked with Portakabin to create our own modular Changing Places that can be hired out. We kitted their units out with everything that is needed in a Changing Place, and they’re now dotted around the country providing the necessary support and relief to disabled people who were previously inhibited by the lack of accessible facilities. In fact, we’ve currently got one unit at the Warner Brothers Harry Potter Studio Tour in Watford!

We hope this gave you a good overview of the benefits of modular Changing Places not just for the users, but also for your business. If you’re looking or a modular Changing Place for an event, or you are a company that manufactures and hires out portable buildings, please get in touch with us so that we can help you provide mobile Changing Places too.
